Mason's battle with AFM
Donation protected
My 6 year old son mason was admitted to the Barbara bush children's unit at Maine medical center 3 weeks ago with a very bad headache. Over the next couple hours he lost movement in his left arm and it became paralyzed. The doctors did an MRI and found that mason had swelling in a section of his spinal cord that had caused his paralysis. After many tests we still have very few answers to what caused the swelling and in turn no cure for his arm.... Thankfully though the rest of his body was able to fight the unknown virus and mason is now back home and our road to recovery and answers begins....
Mason has very high spirits and is a very active young man :) everyday he wakes up in hopes that in his words " he will get his arm back" :'(
As of now no doctors can explain to us why this has happened or what caused his arm to become paralyzed.
His routine of daily therapy began the day we came home from the hospital and still continues. He is slowly adjusting to everyday life without the use of both arms. Although some days this is extremely emotionally and physicaly hard for him and all of us.
Our next step is to journey to Maryland to speak with specialist and see if we can find some answers or anything and everything we can be doing to better masons chances of getting his arm back.
Finally a year later we are headed to Philadelphia for Masons first surgery on January 11th. At the shriners hospital. To help restore some of the nerves in his left arm as long as all goes as planned. He is still in high hopes which is good.
The cost of travel, medical and special items mason needs along the way will most definitely add up but no matter what, I do not want lack of finances to lessen his chances of getting better some day!
Please any donation would greatly be appreciated to help my little tough man through this <3
