Huy Huynh (pronounced like “We Win”), a vibrant and faith-filled 32- year-old young man, was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in June 2015. He is the oldest of 4 brothers with 2 hard-working parents, and a recently engaged fiancé.
Our hearts broke when we learned that Huy was diagnosed with Grade 3 Malignant Meningioma Cancer. Just beginning his dream career, which he worked tirelessly to achieve, he was blind-sided by an unforeseen illness. Huy has an aggressive form of cancer, which has now spread and metastasized to other parts of his brain and spinal cord despite the surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy he has undergone.
In addition to conventional therapy, our family is also looking into alternative medicine at other institutions in order to provide Huy with the best treatment options possible. Many of these cancer centers are out-of-state, and not covered by insurance. The majority of these costs will be out-of-pocket and a significant financial burden.
We hope that with this platform, we can advocate for Huy so that we can find a cure, and ultimately, he can continue to be the man that we all known him to be that we love and adore. We appreciate any and all help, and ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Whether or not we reach our goal, we sincerely appreciate your time, thoughts, and prayers. This cancer is not just Huy’s battle for life, it’s OUR battle as well.
Background:
Meet Huy, someone who at first impression looks you straight in the eyes and you know he is genuine, loving, and has a spirit like no other. As the eldest of four boys, with hard working parents who immigrated during the Vietnam War, he took on the role of being the caretaker and guardian for his brothers.
Growing up, Huy excelled academically. He is a lifelong Gator,as he attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate, masters, and dental degrees. In his 11 years of school, Huy was heavily involved with student organizations, campus life, community service, and even became a founding member of the Sigma Chapter of the Pi Delta Psi Fraternity Inc.
Once Huy graduated from the University of Florida, he moved to Orlando, FL to start the next chapter of his life, before he knew of his condition. Now he resides at home with family in Lakeland, Florida, while undergoing treatment.
Huy has always tried his best to lead by example with his family and friends. He has faced countless trials in his lifetime, and has managed to overcome its obstacles in some shape or form. Huy has found meaning in simplicity and peace during this strenuous time. We know that all of us are honored and proud to witness the person he is today. He continues to not allow cancer to define him. And for that reason, we all must stay together in this fight.
