Fire Victims-The Park State College

Donation protected
My name is Chantel Morrow and I am a resident from The Park at State College. I was not one of the victims from the fire but wanted to help so I began this GoFundMe campaign.

Please help the victims of the fire at The Park in State College, PA. These are residents who many have lost everything they own and are staying in a hotel until Penn State is able to help coordinate housing for the end of the semester. Even then, many students who stay for the summer may be without housing.

(UPDATE): Residents have now been moved to on campus housing and are no longer in the hotel!

We are asking for donations that can help these residents through the last few weeks of the school semester as well as get them back on their feet. The Park had been working with Red Cross and they are working to help replace items these residents might have lost. With final exams beginning and the tragedy of the fire, we are asking people to reach out and help if they can.

Any donations can be taken to The Park’s management office off of Blue Course Dr. in State College. Here we will be collecting items that are dropped off (toiletries, clothes, boxed and canned food, bedding, phone/laptop chargers, etc.) and I will personally be working with the residents and staff to purchase items that have not already been donated (same kinds of items on the list above) using the funds from this campaign.

Since donations will be taken at The Park’s management office, the staff there and myself will be responsible for distributing these items. I will be picking up donations and any items we purchase using the funds. Displaced residents will be able to go to The Park’s management office any time during normal hours to pick up what they need as we collect them. While myself and The Park will be working together to distribute items to the residents Penn State is also working to help us out.

Penn State's Lion's Pantry has reached out to offer free food and extra toiletries to students who need them. They can go to the Lion's Pantry with their student ID and receive these items, no questions asked. CAPS on Penn State campus is also offering support for residents to speak to someone to better cope with the accident and these last couple weeks of school during finals. Penn State staff have been notified of the fire and will work with students to make appropriate accommodations for finals week.

The funds raised from this campaign will go towards buying extra items residents may need that haven’t already been donated. Items we will be purchasing are: new bedding for every displaced resident, school supplies for final exams, toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner etc.), clothes, textbooks, phone/laptop chargers, extra food and any items individually requested by residents that we have not already provided. (Ex: we had some residents asking for umbrellas for the weather up here in State College, PA)
