WikiHouse First State
Spende geschützt
WikiHouse FirstState is comprised of high school students enrolled in the engineering pathway at Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware. We are seeking funds to create a proof of concept design to house displaced peoples and disaster relief efforts. This is how the project works:
1. The Problem
Currently, approximately 1 out of every 116 people on this earth has had to leave their home to flee from persecution or strife. Many live in extreme poverty, becoming destitute with minimal resources. Many do not live at all, perishing due to inhospitable environments and no way to insulate themselves from the harsh reality of their living situation. The current aid sent to conflicted areas such as the middle east lack sustainability and viability for long-term solutions.
2. Our Solution
Delaware’s extension of the WikiHouse Foundation, WikiHouse FirstState, aims to solve this crisis by introducing a sustainable, abiding, shelter for refugees. The United Nations can send tents and supplies into an area for a month, but after the airlifts stop, there is no way to retain the necessities given to refugees. This is why the WikiHouse is so important: It poses as a shelter which can be useful for longer than a tent can and also aids in the upkeep of food, sanitation, water, and other necessities.
3. How?
Through the use of Google SketchUp our team has been designing different structures necessary for a refugee community. What makes this project special is that these structures are able to be printed out on our CNC machine, then assembled on the spot in a way similar to Legos, or a jigsaw puzzle, but still be structurally stable.
4. How YOU can help
We are asking for the necessary proceeds, $17,000, to create an actual sized proof-of-concept through the methods we have described above. Our school has given us a plot to build this structure, all we need are the necessary money for materials, namely large amounts of plywood.
5. What is next?
After getting the funding for this project, and building the proof-of-concept our team plans to display this structure as an actual solution to the refugee crisis, as well as disaster relief. We plan to reach out to not only the US government, but also the United Nations in order to put our solution into large-scale use.
6. We value supporters!
We appreciate all of our Supporters! You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram as well as Facebook to check our progress. Without your support we would not be able to get our project off the ground.
