Memorial for Chris

I'm Jerry, and I served with Chris Snively in Germany and have had the luck to follow our friendship through 24 years of life. He was a rock to me.
Eight short months ago, Chris was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was only 41 years old with two darling, beautiful (and very young) children.
Chris faced his mortality and illness with dignity, honor, and honesty. He passed away on Monday, September 26, surrounded by family and friends.
Chris touched so many lives with his sunny optimism and thoughtfulness. He was soft-spoken yet strong and selfless. Those who had the good fortune to know Chris will always remember him this way.
Chris is an Army veteran - serving in Darmstadt Germany in the 440th Signal Battalion and theater of war in Bosnia/Herzegovina.
He was committed to peace and joined other veterans advocating for peace in Iraq in 2005.
He loved talking politics and was a rare example of polite, intelligent debate.
When learning of his illness and considering his options, he moved to Chicago and lived life fully while also being honest about his struggles with cancer - proving to be a rock for others facing illness.
On one of his last days Chris said to his brother, Mark, that he would like his children to get gifts from him every Christmas.
Chris’s diagnosis and quick decline did not grant him the opportunity to prepare for his funeral.
His family and friends have set-up this GoFundMe page with two main goals:
(1) raising funds for his funeral and
(2) raising money to send his two young children - Zara and Connor - Christmas gifts from their Dad, each year
Please give now and give big if you can.
The funds will be jointly managed by Chris’s brother, Mark (Quentin), and sister-in-law, Danielle, in his loving memory.
This would mean so much to me to know that Chris is taken care of properly and to know that he got a final wish of taking care of his kids on Christmas.
If you can, please also share a fond memory of Chris. Let’s keep his memory alive for his children far into the future.
