Dear Friends,
I am one of two wicked local photojournalists on the south shore. All of the equipment I use to do my job at the newspaper is my own. Nothing is insured by the company and they don't provide any gear. I use my personal laptop, pay for my photo editing programs, etc.
I was shooting a wedding in Boston yesterday evening when my camera backpack was stolen during the eucharist. While I was fortunate enough to have my bodies on me and two of my lenses, I still took a significant hit. That backpack was chalk full of gear because as any good photojournalist knows, you always have to be prepared. All of my cards, chargers, prime lense,s, reflectors and more are gone. Not only that, but my car keys and a camera body that belonged to a friend of my primary shooter was also taken.
It took years to accumulate everything I lost and it's the little things that add up, which are going to make work that much more challenging to do without. Tomorrow is pawn shop hunting in Boston but it's unlikely I will recover anything.
This is such a terrible feeling.
I am SO grateful and lucky to have such a wonderful community around me. So many of you have reached out with kind words and generous offers of assistance. You all mean the world to me and are restoring the faith I lost in people yesterday.
I set up this page with the hopes that you all can boost my spirits a bit more.
If anyone has pro-deals or can find good discounts on Canon gear please let me know! I'd love be able to do this without asking for more than that. But any little bit will help me rebuild and also help my friend who lost one of his camera bodies.
Thank you all in advance and thank you to everyone who has already helped, whether it's with a beer, hugs or lending gear. I have no words, I am indebted to you.
