This page is for my brother, David Lyons...
For the last 17 yrs he has been employed by the same company. He receives awesome performance reviews, his most recent in January, he takes pride in everything he does and supporting his family, sometimes working more than 40 hrs a week. David and his girlfriend of many years have lived together with her 3 children and his 2 children. She has chronic back problems. Now he is facing the fact that he cannot provide for them. Anyone that has met David agrees he is the clown in the room...always making people laugh....despite the worries that he has.

For the last 5 years he has been battling PAD (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/pad) and diabetes He has had an artery in his leg bi-passed and was back at work. In February of this year he had to face the horrible fact that he would have to have his big toe amputated! Again, returning to work. Unfortunately in April the doctors decided he would have to lose all the toes and the ball of his foot. He went on short term disability, his employer was more than happy to agree with it.

Two weeks after having the amputation, it was clear that it was not enough. The look on his face will stick in my mind forever. The decision was to amputate below the knee...amidst the shock of this, his employer called him on the telephone and terminated him, 2 days before surgery! So termination means no insurance..and his employer denied unemployment benefits. Nothing like kicking a man when he is down..I am thankful he was able to get on state insurance so that was a Gods send.

Surgery was scheduled for May 13...the night before the surgeon came into his hospital room and said we, meaning all the artery doctors decided it would be in his best interest to amputate above the knee! I can't imagine the things that were whirling around in his head...

My brother is a very strong person..I am so proud of how far he has come. David is learning to walk with a prosthetic and accepting this is how it is. He hasn't lost his sense of humor and he continues to make people laugh.

There is no way he can afford everyday needs. I have been helping him as much as I can. There is a waiting period for Social Security Disability up to 6 month....maybe more and he is worried he and his family will get thrown out into the street. I started this page in hopes that he can get help paying expenses until he is approved.

David is a wonderful father and an awesome  person!  Thank you so much for taking the time to read my brother's story.  Anything would be greatly appreciated.  Have a great day!
