Meet Diann Robertson... also know as Diann Pick, Di, Dee-dee or to us... Aunt Dee.
Help Diann Ditch That Pancreas is an effort started to help finance a medical journey to Edmonton University Hospital for our Aunt Dee.
Most of you would know that Diann has been a type one diabetic since age 13. Over years she has had many health complications related to her diabetes including extreme and unpredictable blood sugars (and the debilitating headaches that go with that), extensive skin grafts on her shin, laser eye surgeries, kidney stones and chronic pain just to name a few. In December 2014 after consulting with a Halifax specialist who removed most of her pancreas thinking that would alleviate her chronic pain. This surgery was unsuccessful. Since the surgery Diann's heath has further deteriorated and she is losing her quality of life and has lost her ability to support herself.
But things are looking up, Diann has just been referred to Dr Shapiro in Edmonton, Alberta. Dr Shapiro is a highly respected doctor specializing in Pancreatic Islet transplants and other Diabetic Related issues and surgeries. Dr Shapiro has scheduled Aunt Dee for surgery to remove the remainder of her pancreas on October 14, 2016. (THIS IS ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY!!)
MSI may assist with some of the costs associated with this proceedure. However travel, lodging and meals for the approximate three week stay for both herself and a caregiver will be out of pocket.
We are reaching out to her friends and family to cover these costs for her to put her mind at ease so she can focus on ditching that jerk of a pancreas, FINALLY.
We thank you for reading this blurb and for your help. Please send her your prayers and general good vibes and leave a message below. Feel free to share this link with anyone you know who may want updates during this time.
Keep this page bookmarked as we keep everyone updated as she goes through ANOTHER major surgery.
