Dear Potential Donater,
My name is Scott Secord and I am seeking your consideration in helping to fund the first year of my professional golf career.
My dream growing up was to become a professional athlete. Through grade eleven I was pursuing basketball however my passion shifted to golf in my later teens. As a member of the University of British Columbia Thunderbird's Varsity Golf Team, I honed my skills and competed in every tournament except for three during my four years of eligibility.
My collegiate highlights include winning the Canadian University Championship twice (2014, 2016), receiving NAIA All-American honours in all four years, being selected three times to the CIS All Tournament Team and twice to the NAIA All Tournament Team. I was selected to represent Team Canada at the FISU World University Championships in Crans Montana, Switzerland where I placed tenth leading Canada to an all time high finish of fifth.
This past winter I believe I made the greatest strides when I competed alongside Canadian Tour regulars on the Vancouver Golf Tour. In the amateur division, I won four of six events including the Tour Championship. Playing these tournaments with the tour veterans made me realize that success at the professional level is attainable.
This summer I was fortunate to participate in three Mackenzie Tour Events in Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa. After Monday qualifying for the Edmonton tournament and making the cut I finished at seven under par, proving to myself that I am able to compete at the professional level. I was privileged to receive sponsors' exemptions to the other two events however I missed the cut in both despite opening the tournaments with strong under par first rounds. I believe that with more professional tournament experience I will feel more comfortable in realizing my full potential.
Other accomplishments of my golfing career include having four hole in ones, shooting a low score of 61 on the Talons at Country Hills Golf Club and holding a competitive course record of 65 at Southwood Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg.
Notable top finishes of my career include finishing second at the 2016 Marine Drive Amateur,
third at the 2016 Alberta Men's Amateur and seventh at the 2013 Canadian Amateur plus eight top ten collegiate finishes.
My primary objective is to earn status on a major professional circuit such as the PGA or European Tour in four years or less. To do so, I intend to pursue the Canadian and Asian Developmental Tours over the coming year to gain status on the Web.com or AsianTour.
Over the winter my objective is to earn status on the Asian Developmental Tour to gain valuable experience in an internationally competitive environment in preparation for the Canadian Tour next summer. My goal is to achieve a stroke average of 69.00 or better this winter. Accomplishing these goals will set me on the right path to a feeder tour.
Whether I qualify or not, I will have guaranteed status on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) for which the schedule is yet to be released. The ADT travels mostly between Thailand and Malaysia with tournaments every few weeks. The purses for an ADT event are between $50 000 and $100 000 USD.
I plan to stay overseas until April, 2017 before returning to Canada to prepare for the Canadian Tour Q School in Courtney, BC in which I expect to gain full status for the 2017 season.
I believe this plan will provide me with the best competitive experience while playing against international talent.
Having this financial support will allow me to fully focus on pursuing my goals and develop my game. I understand funding an athlete for any sum of money is a serious commitment. Any support that you can provide would go a long way to help me realize my dream and is greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Scott Secord
