Charity School Arusha's New Land

Donation protected
This campaign has been started by people from Australia, Canada and the U.S.A. to help raise funds for Charity School Arusha in Tanzania. All of us spent months volunteering here and have seen what a great school it is. We have gotten to know the director and principal who have incredible vision. We have gotten to know the teachers who give so much of themselves for the students, as well as the students who are so eager to learn and are incredibly happy. The student population has outgrown its rented plot of land and the director has now started the process of buying land to build a new, larger school which will eventually accommodate many more students. The purpose of this campaign is to help raise the money needed to build this larger school so that more children will have the opportunity to receive the type of education Charity School Arusha provides.

Background and Growth:
Charity School Arusha's main goal is to provide quality education to financially disadvantaged children. They are an English medium nursery and primary school in Sanawari (a very poor district of Arusha) which is where the majority of their students live. Because they are a private school, they do not receive any government funding, but it also allows them to provide a better education for the students. Unfortunately, students primarily come from low income families who are unable to pay their children’s tuition fees, but the school diligently seeks sponsors to make sure these children can finish their primary school educations.

Charity School Arusha was founded in 2010 by Charles Richard. Initially there were only seven students and one teacher, but today with the help of principal Mosses Mollel there are 145 students, 9 teachers and one cook. The school has been growing exponentially and is at a point where they have outgrown their current school/land. There are four acres of land which they are planning to buy in order to build a school big enough to accommodate their growing student population. At this point they have been able to purchase one of the acres of land but there is now a time crunch to purchase a second acre and start construction. The picture below is the land for the new school.

Fundraising Goals:
The second acre of land will cost $7,000.00 CAD and the initial construction will cost $6,000.00 CAD. The construction fee will build what the government requires minimally for a school to be registered. This includes three classrooms, one office, and a bathroom containing five toilet stalls.

Words from Volunteers:
I see so much potential at Charity School. The progress they’ve already made is astounding. The passion and dedication of the staff is what has brought them so far and what will bring about more improvement as time passes and resources improve. The next step in the schools growth is building a secondary school, but we do not yet have the funds. All the faculty, volunteers, and I would greatly appreciate any support you could provide for the current, and future students of this school.

This school is filled with staff that strive to see the students succeed. Charles, the director and Mosses, the principal have so much passion and vision for Charity School. What they have accomplished so far is incredible, especially in comparison to some of the other schools I have visited in Tanzania, but they could do so much more with proper funding. The students are so amazing and it has been a blessing to watch them learn and grow. I truly hope this vision for their new school comes into fruition quickly so that more children are given the opportunity that their current students have been given.

Charity School is doing wonderful things for the local children in the Sanawari district of Arusha, which is known to have extreme rates of poverty, unemployment and uneducated children. Charity School is both a Nursery and Primary School that educates children between 3 to 13 years old. These students are all from very poor families who are not able to pay for their children’s tuition. The School is run solely on donations and sponsorships of the students. Charity School provides their student’s access to free quality education from well-trained teachers using an English based curriculum with the help of enthusiastic volunteers from all over the world. The impact that regular volunteers have had on the development of Charity School has been enormous. The school has grown from 60 students in 2013 to 145 students today. There is now twice the amount of staff members and the classrooms are all full. This huge growth is due to the incredible reputation the school has with both volunteers and the local people of Sanawari.

Students:
There are many students at Charity School, however we just wanted to introduce you to two who have been at the school since it first opened in 2010.

This is Asia Miraji. Asia lives in a rented house in Sanawari with her mother, father and younger sister Asna who is also at Charity School. Her father is an alcoholic and currently unemployed. Her mother works as a seamstress. She is currently in class 5, and has received all of her education at Charity School even though she is without a sponsor.

This is Vivian John. Vivian lives in Sanawari with her mother, father, older brother and sister. Her father works casually in construction and her mother stays at home. Vivian’s older siblings are both at local Government School’s, however Vivian has received all of her education at Charity School.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about our campaign. If this is something you would like to help fund, we want to thank you. Any support would mean so much to us because we have invested our time, energy and finances into this school so it is very close to our hearts. The students and staff will have even more gratitude because this will impact their lives in a very possitive way.
