Hettie's Wheelchair Freedom
Donation protected
My dear friend Hettie has a number of health conditions (some of which I have in common with her) that have left her almost entirely housebound and unable to walk more than a few steps. At the moment she only has an attendant wheelchair (the one with the small back wheels that requires someone to push it), not a self-propelled chair. This severely restricts every aspect of her life.
She needs a good-quality wheelchair that will enable her to go out on her own and give her her independence back; the current chair does not do this at all and is completely unsuitable. Last month she came to my wedding and I lent her my old chair to ceilidh-dance in. It was the first time in 3 years she had been able to dance in and it was beyond fantastic for her to do this. I'm certain that she was the happiest person there that day, even happier than myself and new now-husband. It would mean the world to her and her fiancé, as well as myself and everyone who knows her, to enable her to regain her freedom.
As a chair user myself, I know how important it is to have a chair that matches your needs because that chair means freedom. External funding is very limited and so to ensure she has a good chair I have set up this fund to raise the money for her to get the chair she needs as her health means that she and her fiancé
are on an extremely small budget and cannot fund this themselves.
The chair we are aiming to raise funds for is a TiLite ZRA. (This is the model chair I have and it is ideal for her.) It is a rigid-frame, titanium wheelchair. A lot of other chairs are simply not suitable due to weight, durability, etc.
Costs involved:
- basic chair frame
- push handles (height-adjustable)
- wheels
- suitable footplate
- good-quality cushion
- brakes
- side guards
- plus possible others.
The aim is to have the funds by the time she and Owen marry in May 2016. We will be very thankful for any and every contribution.
Please help Hettie get her life back!
