3 Summit Challenge

Donation protected
We are a group of brave staff from Totus Engineering, and we've embarked on an audacious quest - the '3 Summit Challenge'. Our mission?

To climb the highest point in Cornwall (called Brown Willy) a staggering 170 times, conquering a combined elevation equal to the towering heights of Mount Everest, K2, and Kilimanjaro!

As we gear up for this gruelling endeavour, our calves are already trembling at the thought of ascending the 1,378-foot (420-meter) peak again and again. But we're prepared to push our limits and summit Brown Willy's rocky outcrops and desolate, Bronze Age-tinged landscapes until we achieve our goal.

This extraordinary challenge isn't just about testing our physical endurance; it's also an opportunity to support a noble cause close to our hearts - Morvargh Sailing Project.

Morvargh Sailing Project is a nonprofit organisation transforming young lives through offshore sailing voyages. Their vessel, Helen Mary R, has taken over 5,000 young people on incredible journeys, fostering self-confidence, communication skills, leadership abilities, and resilience.

This year, Morvargh Sailing Project has an ambitious plan to reduce its environmental impact while providing hands-on sustainability education to its young people. They aim to equip Helen Mary R with solar panels and renewable energy systems, empowering the next generation of environmental stewards.

Young people will be directly involved in every step of the process, from monitoring power generation to calculating the impact of emissions. Specific hands-on engagement elements include:

  • Trainees will take hourly readings from the Victron monitoring system to record real-time solar power generation. They will keep logs and discuss power output trends.
  • Teams of young people will track quantifiable data on factors like engine runtime, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions. They will compare this against solar production logs to empirically understand environmental impact reduction.

Through active participation in the vessel’s solar power system, data collection, and reporting, young sailors will build an intrinsic appreciation for renewable energy and an empowered ability to reduce their environmental footprint. These experiences will inspire the next generation of environmental stewards within their communities.

The 430W solar array is projected to produce approximately 1kWh daily. An average diesel engine runtime of 3 hours per day at 9.9kg of CO2 per hour equals an annual emissions reduction of 10.93 metric tons of CO2 annually!

With each step we take on Bodmin Moor's rugged terrain, we'll be inching closer to supporting Morvargh's mission of inspiring and educating young minds about renewable energy, marine conservation, and reducing their carbon footprints.

Join us on this epic adventure by contributing to our fundraising campaign. Together, we can conquer metaphorical mountains, empower young people, and pave the way for a more sustainable future on the high seas.

Let's climb for a greener tomorrow!
