Ray Rubio is beloved husband of Julie, and brother of Yvonne and Robert. He is a committed and caring father. He is a close friend to countless smokejumpers and members of the wildland firefighter community.
Ray’s personality and friendship has touched many of our lives in the firefighting community. Ray’s sense of humor and unstoppable work ethic have won us all over, claiming our hearts and creating enduring, fun-filled memories.
Ray is the guy who knows how to fix everything, and help everyone else with his or her problems, any time of day. He is a real life McGyver.

Now for a change our good friend
and brother Ray Rubio needs our support, as he fights for his life in a
Birmingham Alabama hospital.

Rubio is a proud veteran, having served in the US Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne. Ray has worked for the US federal government for more than 25 years. During this time Ray has been an influential and admirable leader in the fire community, developing connections and mentoring firefighters from Alaska to Alabama and on.
Ray began his career as a Smokejumper in Redmond Oregon, in
1995. Smokejumpers are a tight community, spending long hours together on assignments, for weeks at a time. And Ray is involved deeply in all aspects of Smokejumping. Ray remains invaluable to his coworkers and friends, on the fireline and off the clock. He is the person who shows up every day; ready to go anywhere he is needed, and takes on the most challenging tasks.
Julie, Ray’s wife, shows up to the weekly Sunday BBQs, to fill us all with delicious food and humorous stories. Julie is family, and an important part of who we are. Ray values his time off from work and spends it with Julie. Ray and Julie have an inseparable bond, sharing and enjoying laughs, food, and football, with anyone that comes their way.
Ray is dearly loved in his childhood home of Brawley, CA where he keeps in touch with countless family members and friends . All of them are wishing there childhood friend 'Squeegie' well and are awaiting good news.
Just before Thanksgiving Day, after completing a fire assignment, Ray was in Birmingham Alabama, about to travel home. A serious accident occurred, that left Ray critically injured. Ray is currently under intensive care and his condition remains life threatening.
Those of us, who know Ray, know his determination and ability to overcome insurmountable odds. And as his friends and family gather around him, we know Ray will be fighting with all his strength.
We have started this site to organize and focus support, thoughts, and prayers for the legendary Ray Rubio. Please help us support our Brother and his family in this challenging time.
