Do you or someone you know have a problem with drugs or alcohol? How about someone who has been a victim of domestic violence or has their own issues with being abusive? Have you ever gotten so angry that you can barely control what you say and do? Most people have experienced at least one of these. We, at In Awe Foundation, have some answers that can help. We want to tell everyone but we don’t have money necessary to continue to build the Foundation. We need your help.

For our Executive Director, Meena Vashi-Moore, this has been a labor of love. She is very passionate about the Foundation, but as much as she loves what she is doing be assured that it is a labor of love. She has worked at building the Foundation full time plus for the past 4 years. She has gathered a small but equally dedicated cadre of people who have volunteered their services. Let’s give some statistics and testimonials to back up what we have said.

As revised in 2015, an estimated 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older—9.4 percent of the population— used an illicit drug or abused a psychotherapeutic medication (such as a pain reliever, stimulant, or tranquilizer) in a one-month period. This is up from 8.3 percent in 2002. 17.6 million people, or one in every 12 adults, suffer from alcohol abuse. Alcohol and Illicit drug use in America has been steadily increasing. Of that 17.6 million people, approximately 17 percent of men and 8 percent of women will be dependent on alcohol in their lifetime. So many individuals, families and friends have been affected by either one or more of these issues, possibly someone you may know. According to the National Coalition against Domestic Violence, on average nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.

Roughly 22 million Americans — 8.9 percent of the adult population—have impulsive anger issues. More than one in ten people (12%) say that they have trouble controlling their own anger and almost a third of people (32%) say they have a close friend or family member who has trouble controlling their anger.
Below are links to videos about abuse, addiction, and anger that you may want to view for additional information:

Anger: https://youtu.be/FZB9KEXolXI

Before your mind is flooded with all of these statistics, it is important to understand that these three areas are correlated. For instance, more than 75 percent of domestic violence victims report that their assailant had been drinking or using illicit drugs at the time of the incident. Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s National Household Survey on Drug Abuse indicated that 40% of frequent cocaine users reported engaging in some form of violence or aggressive behavior. A US Department of Justice study found that as many as 40% of violent crimes occur under the influence of alcohol. Since it’s clear to see that all three areas are interrelated we believe that our services will positively influence those we’ve helped who will in-turn encourage, engage and empower others to persevere. As those who seek out our assistance change their lives, to become happy, healthy, and productive members of society future generations will be impacted by paying-it-forward!

Statistics are important to look at when examining how much of an issue abuse, addiction, and anger are to our society. These three issues are something we, as a society, don’t want to talk about because we don’t want to face the harsh realities these issues cause to individuals, families, and the community. We need more than statistics to make a difference.

In Awe Foundation’s mission is to educate, engage, and empower individuals reduce the destruction and devastation caused by abuse, addiction or anger through our Recovery Life Coaching Model that has showed success. We are a unique non-profit organization {501 3(c)} that is committed to assuring that each individual that seeks our help recovers with personal responsibility, implementation of life building skills which in-turn inspires sustainable change within the individual, family and community, to help them create, “the foundation for an awesome life!”

Since In Awe Foundation, Inc.’s inception in August 2011, it has developed a viable Board of Advisors, a Board of Directors, and a Board of Trustees, a website: www.InAweFoundation.org, coaching programs, and our recorded radio show called, Speak Up and Step Out which can be listened to online at: http://www.inawefoundation.org/step-up-and-speak-out-weekly-radio-show/ . All of this was achieved through our committed groups of interns and volunteers in the last four years. However, we have not yet acquired the seed funding necessary to begin the work that is so needed within our own communities. With your contributions we will be able to obtain much needed office space to work with clients, pay coaching and counseling staff, and increase our outreach workshops for individuals and communities affected by abuse, addiction, or anger.
Here are some real testimonials from individuals who have received coaching and guidance from In Awe Foundation may guide you to support our mission.

“I was in an abusive relationship in the past, struggling with my self-esteem and unhealthy habits. What I’ve benefited from was meeting people who’ve been where I was and came out being successful. They’re a reminder it’s never too late to improve life” – Ellen
“Most importantly I learned that the tools (of Anger Management) are for dealing with the anger, not eliminating it” -Rhonda
“My coaching began in October. It is helping me organize my feelings and thoughts. Before coaching, I had attended counseling, but I don't feel I was making progress to make a change in my life. I now feel, I am now developing a plan for my future” -Lori

As you can tell, this is a cause worth supporting. Your financial support is crucial. Each one of you has been touched by abuse, addiction, or anger which are the only diseases which we deny and tax. In addition to the statistics, help us create impact now. So be part of the change and contribute to In Awe Foundation, Inc. Our heartfelt thanks for your contributions and if passing it on to others so together we achieve a common goal to serve others!
