Lynn Street Colored School

Donation protected

One of the first schools for African Americans in Indiana,Lynn Street colored school, is where the Maddex family attended school and served on the teaching staff. When the school was closed, Reverend Maddex purchased the building. Holding true to their mission of service to their community, Reverend Maddex used the building to house African American war time workers. After the war, they turned the building into a goodwill center, fed the hungry, and provided clothing and housing for anyone in need. Reverend Maddex and his family served the community for over a hundred years. The Maddex family is still invested in serving the community. Help them restore the building as a space for historical education and support for community events.
