Eddie Richardson, born and raised in Brockport NY, moved to SC to become a police officer. Serving his community for the last 12 years, he became a deputy sheriff in Lexington SC, 7 years ago. He was responding to a call that ultimately left him disabled and can't work the rest of his life. The call came out and Eddie responded to it, without knowing that the suspect would try and kill Eddie, the suspect floored his car and hit him once flinging him back, he landed on his foot wrong and hearing a snap in his back damn near breaking it. When the suspect didn't succeed in killing Eddie the first time, he tried a second time in which Eddie had no time to think and pulled his service weapon and shot and killed the suspect as he had no cover to get behind. The SC state law enforcement division has cleared Eddie of any wrong doing and was justified in the shooting. He didn't give the suspect a second chance as that one would of killed Eddie. Critically wounded, Eddie went over to the car and tried to administer CPR to the suspect in which it was to late. Eddie didn't want the guy to die even after he tried to kill him nor did Eddie want to be killed so that split second he had to think saved Eddies life. Both issues are something that he will have to live with the rest of his life. With all the surgeries he's been through and all the surgeries he will need in the near future and probably the rest of his life, he was forced into retirement and was left without any health insurance for him or his family. The only way he can get health insurance is to pay almost $2000 per month for him, his wife and his kids. Not to many families can afford that, so this money I'm raising will go to the piling up bills, medical bills and to regain his health insurance. Eddie was hired to serve and protect and that's what he did that night for the homeowners as he put his own life in danger and now he's disabled.
