My Dad’s Funeral : Last Wishes

Donation protected
Hello all,

Firstly, many thanks for the messages of condolence, visit to the family house and casanka from friends and family. A short story about this Gofund webpage, my father passed away on Friday 8th December 2017 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

On Thursday 7th December 2017, I visited him in the hospital and said I will visit him after the graduation on Friday 8th December at 1pm (Thinking I said 4/5pm)

On the Friday 8th December 2017, my mother visited my father in the hospital in the morning and was by his side until my aunty arrived at 11am, my father was conscious of who was in the room and opened his eyes when my aunty greeted him to say she was there, after this point he never opened his eyes but was still conscious. My mother popped out of the room for a few minutes to talk to the doctors and arrange a few things regarding care for my father, she returned to the room at 1pm and was assuring my father he will recover, at 1.05pm my father passed away.

My graduation finished at 4pm and I came to the hospital to know of the passing of my father at 4.30pm. In summary, my father held on to his last breath (until 1.05pm) in hopes to see me by his bedside. I’m sadden by his death because I feel he held on to my words and I didn’t make it on time to see him before he passed away.

A brief history of my father suggests he was a fighter and strong-willed. In 2000, he had two strokes; Kidney transplant in 2008 and other health commodities. He was constantly in hospitals and needed care at home for 17 years. In this period, my mother was a strong rock for him and us as we grew up. Although his death has saddened our family, my father achieved a lot of things he planned and saw a lot of things which brought him joy in the last 17 years. At his death bed on 3rd December 2017, my father asked me and my brother do some charity work on behalf of him, these are the remaining personal causes he could not live to do but has asked me and my brother to do for him, these included:
• Restoration of his parent’s gravesite in Kenema, Sierra Leone
• Provision of Parkinson drugs for is childhood friend suffering from this neurological condition in Bo, Sierra Leone
• Provision for his kidney donor to get regular health checks in Freetown, Sierra Leone

My father’s funeral will be 21st December 2018 and he will be laid to rest in the afternoon following the funeral Service at the Globe Church, in Reading.
