3rd Annual Christmas Family Sponsor
Donation protected
Hey everyone!
We are starting our "3rd annual adopt a family for Christmas" campaign and we have until December 23, 2016 to raise the funds for the family.
This year, the family we have chosen is truly special. In short, a single mother of 5 had her home flooded (her husband left when the home was destroyed), and now her and her 5 children (ages 19, 13, 9, 2 and 1) are living in the house that is filled with termite damage, asbestos, and mold. Even though they have had this hardship, the children are taking money out of their piggy banks and donating that money to homeless in the Lafayette area.
I challenge you to do your best to give this family the break that not only they need, but deserve. Anything helps and is appreciated and please spread the word! Our goal for this family is $1,500 - they will receive Visa gift cards to use wherever they feel necessary to get their life back to normal.
Thank you for considering them and Lindsey and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
The Family's Story (sent from Our Saviors Church):
"Recent single mom who has fallen upon hard times (flood damaged home and after the flood her husband left), she works and isn't in the system for government assistance, has a genuine need, and is a good person.
In fact, last night we had to postpone our meeting time because her and the kids decided to cash-in some coins they had and go make "blessing bags" of toiletries to give to the homeless. I was just blown away. Those that are in need are still finding ways to give to others.
They are one special family."
"Teresa and her 5 kids (19, 13, 9, 2 & 1yrs) are a genuine delight to know and spend time with. Together they are an incredible family of faith, perseverance, resiliency and optimism. As a single mom now raising her kids on her own, Teresa stays busy in and out of her home while she also is employed. Despite already being a "full house," in August 2016 their home took in even more, in the form of flood waters. When the rain ended and the water finally receded, they had lost home contents, wall paneling, insulation and more. But that wasn't the most upsetting damage, that news came when a contractor friend came to help muck-out her home and discovered that many of her rooms had asbestos in the floor.
The family immediately moved out to take shelter in a hotel, but quickly the FEMA housing funds ran out. Teresa and her kids also tried living with a kind family member, however, they quickly learned 6 people in a living room was much too crowded. So, they were left with no other choice but to move back into their asbestos-ridden home. In addition to the asbestos, they are also battling black mold and termite damage.
Despite their hardship and the heartache of losing so much, Teresa and the kids keep smiling and believing that things will get better."
