Hope For Jake

***IMPORTANT***Our Union City Police Department family is in crisis. We need Prayer and good thoughts please. Officer James Hall and his wife Bethany have twin 15 year old boys. One of the twins, Jake had a terrible medical emergency and full cardiac arrest while at church camp on Monday afternoon. He was resuscitated twice with extended CPR and multiple defibrillations. He is currently fighting for his life at Children's ICU. Initially it was believed to be at least partially related to a heat emergency. The Doctors and Nurses placed Jake in a hypothermia cooling wrap system to reduce swelling in his brain and preserve organ function. They lowered his temp down to 33.6 degrees. The plan is to keep him that way for 24 hours, then warm him up slowly and check neurological function. Today Jake's lab work is responding to the therapy. His organs are responding well. The plan is to begin the warming process at 9:00 PM and take 12 hours to return him to normal temperature. They will perform neurological tests and depending on the results will begin the process of weaning off of the sedation. The Doctors were clear that they do not know if he will wake up. However, the tests they have been performing say his body is responding favorably. The tentative diagnosis is a reentry pathway cardiac arrhythmia called Wolf Parkinson White (WPW) Syndrome. He also had heat related symptoms. WPW is treatable through a relatively safe procedure. This will take place once Jake is stable. The moments of truth will really start tomorrow morning. Please keep Jake, his parents Bethany and James, and his family in your prayers. Medical Bills as well as loss of work income are likely to be in the $250,000 for this Law Enforcement family. Please help us take some of this burden off their shoulders so they can concentrate solely on Jake and his recovery. Many thanks. Chief Richard Stephens.
