Nick Carbo's Amputation Medical Ex.
Donation protected
In the last week of June Nick went to the hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas to have his infected diabetic right big toe looked at in the emergency room. He was admitted because the toe had turned necrotic and the infection had started to spread. The next day he underwent an amputation of the right foot/leg below the knee. He is recovering now but he faces a mountain of challenges--he has no health insurance! He was two months into a new job (as a corrections monitor) but had another month before that insurance kicked in. Bad timing! Through a charity he was given a usable walker but he will need a wheel chair for longer distances, a shower chair, and eventually a prosthesis. That, plus the surgery and hospital stay is financially daunting. If you can help with any amount, I am so deeply grateful.

A good way to get me back on my feet (in this case, foot) is to have something to look forward to. If any of my academic friends/literary friends run a paid reading series, please keep me in mind for those gigs. Also if there are any Poet in Residence teaching opportunities I could apply for please let me know: [email redacted]
