Braw Wee Traders

One of the Braw Wee Emporium's aims is to support the regeneration of the local area, and one of the ways we want to help support that is through supporting local people to see working or trading as the Barras market and a viable option for employment.

In January, we are launching our pilot project with some funding support from the Glasgow Awesome Fund to train up local women from the East End to set up their own retail businesses and become Barras Traders.

How will we do this?

We are looking to recruit two women from the East End, who will receive eight full days of training with the Braw Wee Team in making stock/ sourcing products; retail display; customer service; developing their branding & marketing material; social media development; retail admin (card payments, cash management, packaging materials, etc.).

They will then receive four days of training at the Barras Market with subsided stalls with support from the Braw Wee team. Braw Wee will support them by promoting them and their stalls through our own mailing lists, social media sites, and business and community networks.

The project ties in with a partnership project with Rock Regen CIC and Glasgow Furniture Collective supported by Glasgow City Council's Stalled Spaces funding - 'Be a Barras Trader'. It also forms part of our overall aim of supporting the regeneration of the local area. The Braw Wee Traders project is something we've been aiming to do for the past couple of years, and we're now in a position to take it forward with this help.

We will continue to support the Braw Wee Traders beyond this period, through informal mentoring and contact.

By the end of 2018, we aim to have supported 10 individuals with setting up their own stalls or into other employment opportunities.

Donate!

We have received an initial award of £500 from the Awesome Foundation Glasgow, but to be able to properly support the trainees we are looking to raise additional funds that will allow us to invest in equipment, resources, marketing materials, supplies, travel expenses and more staff that will support the pilot project and future training programmes.
