THIS YOUNG LADY NEEDS HELP TO MOVE ON....
In February this year, Kat was a happy and healthy 23 year old. Until she was the victim of a road rage incident that not only left her car totally destroyed but has also left her traumatised. She is now suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and soft tissues injuries to her back. She has tried to move on but regardless of countless therapy sessions she still relives that night which affects her sleep, she has flashbacks and triggers, which in turn affects her day to day functioning.
Kat had a great job as a Quality Assessor for a company who seals and repairs the tarmacs for RAAF bases Australia wide. They didn’t understand the extent of her trauma so they let her go two months after the incident and right before her twelve month probation period ended. Unfortunatley Kat was unable to talk about it with her employers, losing a job she loved broke her heart.
I have watched her life go from that of a happy, easy going and ambition 23 year old to a young woman who simply cannot get over what happened to her on that horrendous night. To know what she went through that night and how it affects her now, as her mother it is just heartbreaking.
Seven months later, the boy (21 year old) who did this to her continues to plead 'not guilty' (four court appearances so far) wasting valuable court time, so she will have to go to court in December as a witness, this is despite him admitting what he did and that it was unprovoked in his initial statement to the police, who took his statement at the site. Also despite being charged with ‘endangering the health, life and safety of others’. His defence now is she was ‘brake testing’ him! Kat feared for her life yet had the good sense to slow down when she could on a dark country road, as his 4WD hit her car three times until he finally left her in a ditch and rolling his own car. God knows what he was going to do if he didn’t end up rolling it!
By dragging out the court procedings it is impossible for Kat to really move on and get some closure especially when she knows she has to see him in court and re-live this over and over. Photos of both vehicles in updates.
Kat has not been employed since, apart from some temporary part-work, she has no savings left, and her bills are mounting. As if things couldn’t get worse now the car she bought through her car insurance payout needs major repairs! The cylinder head has to be replaced, it is bent so it can’t be repaired, and the quote is just under $3000. Kat went into debt to get a Prado thinking it would be a safer car for her. The mechanic has agreed to fix it with a $500 deposit and we can pay the rest off, he will release her car when it’s paid. Anything raised above $1000 will be put towards her car. Quote in comments.
I think if we can get close to the target it will be a huge relief and will give Kat some much needed peace of mind. I don’t know if you thank people in advance but anything you donate will be greatly appreciated and will make the world of difference to her.
