Kaitlyn's Handicap Accessible Van
Donation protected
Kaitlyn was born full term/healthy on January 28, 2004. On April 19, 2004 she was airlifted to CHOA (Children's Healthcare of Atlanta) she had stopped breathing in her sleep. We were able to resuscitate her, and she was diagnosed with viral meningitis. The doctor's told me that they didn't expect her to make it through the night, but she did! She does have an anoxic brain injury from the amount of time she went without oxygen. After about a month at CHOA we were finally able to come home. Due to the brain injury, and the severe spasticity it caused Kaitlyn was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in 2005. She had her first of four hip surgeries in 2006. They just kept coming back out of place because of the spasticity. Now she is unable to bend her hips at all. Her left hip is rotating out which has caused her left leg to rotate out with it. Orthopedically she is extremely fragile. This makes traveling extremely hard, for her and I both. For years we just made do, and I picked her up and carried her to my car - now she doesn't fit in my car because of her being unable to bend. A handicap accessible vehicle is now a necessity for her, not just a want .Even though she has the brain injury she is fully aware of what is going on around her. She is by far one the happiest children you will ever see. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I hear is her laughing! :) She's such a blessing to everyone around her! Now if we could be the blessing to her and get her vehicle, so she can enjoy life like everyone else, that would be amazing! I have never asked for anything from anyone for her, but she needs this! Please help us if you can! Every little bit helps!
