Hello Everyone.
Last Saturday night, Athena Agassi was at a campground w/ friends 4 wheeling when the 4 wheeler she was driving went out of control and flipped. She was found unconscious and was lucky enough to be found by an ENT who had just returned from working in Marquette. He heard the call and immediately responded. This was crucial because the first minutes are very critical when unconscious. She was rushed to the ER in MQT where was diagnosed with a severe concussion with a 4 mm contusion. She has some bleeding on the brain at the top of her head and a broken collar bone.
Today Aug 25th, 2015 is the first day she has started to communicate. She is in extreme pain and mostly screams out, as if in a nightmare. It is still unknown how long her recovery will be. It is told to me she might be in the hospital for weeks with rehabilitation due to the severity of brain injuries. These factors cannot be determined at this time until she is fully awake. She still does not know where she is at this time. We are blessed that she has awakened, I am very thankful for this. It is so frightening to be enduring this and we are taking this one day at a time. Brain injuries are so delicate of an issue.
Her other friend, Lauren has some broken bones but is doing better and is home now. I'm a single mom here in Marquette and am overwhelmed with the realities of this situation. I am thankful to be in Marquette where people still help others. I was supposed to be moving at the end of this month and am still trying to secure a house, in a college town.
Thanks Kindly,
Sheryn Agassi (mom).
