Help Darrel and Family

On May 9, 2012 I was in a horrific car accident. I was driving a Volkswagen Bug and was run off the road by another vehicle trying to pass me on a curvy road. Once the car started rolling I was thrown from the driver seat through the sunroof and twenty feet from my vehicle even though I was wearing a seatbelt. I was left with my hips, pelvis, and left femur crushed. I also had severe head trauma that left me with bleeding on the brain and damage to my ability to move and show any emotion. I had crushed ribs and was badly bruised. I was life-flighted to Shands in Jacksonville, Florida and died four times in the helicopter on the way there. I was in a coma for 19 days from the date of the wreck and had a tracheotomy to support my breathing because I had been on the breathing machine so long. While in the hospital I developed severe pneumonia that caused me to be taken into surgery three times to have the infection scraped from my lungs. I was taken into surgery to have a metal rod place from one hip through my pelvis and into the other hip and a fixator that protruded from my hips to hold everything in place until it could mend together. Throughout the course of all this I was given six different blood transfusions. I was in ICU and rehab centers in the hospital for a total of 3 months. While in the rehab center I was rolled too far onto my fixator bars which shoved the metal bar further into my crushed hips and ripped the skin where my fixator came out of my hips. Due to this I ended up with a severe infection. While all of this was going on I still had a wife and son that relied on me for financial support and I could no longer provide this for them. All income was gone and on top of that we were being hit with mountains of medical bills from my hospitalization and surgeries. Once I came home I was due to get my fixator taken out in August but due to my Medicaid not being approved for my medical bills yet, my surgery was postponed for a month after it was due to come out. I have been hospitalized three times for necrotizing fasciitis that I was exposed to and contracted at the rehab center. I finally had my fixator taken out on 9-26-12. In August of 2013, I was hospitalized for 2 weeks because I had a spinal stroke and my kidneys were shutting down. The spinal stroke left me with a damaged bladder and kidneys. I am now home again and am still waiting for up to four more surgeries or more that are long overdue. I am currently receiving disability that allows my family and me to barely get by and my Medicaid keeps getting put off. I cannot receive any other surgeries until my Medicaid is pushed through. I have to pay out over $500 a month just in medicines to keep myself going.
