Walking The Mile

Mo Fyaz will be walking 200 miles with Anne Marie Waters and others, starting in Bradford, ending in London. The goal: to raise awareness and for the Government to fulfil its obligation under Article 18 Human Rights Act, freedom of conscience.

100% of the money will be used to help fund the walk: security, equipment, food, accommodation, and a support vehicle.

Why is the walk needed?

What has Britain got in common with Islamic nations such as Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Sudan? The answer may surprise you. In all of these countries, Christians from Muslim family backgrounds frequently face extreme violence, imprisonment and the threat of death simply because they were brought up as Muslims, but left Islam to follow a faith or no faith. All five schools of Islamic law (sharia) state that any person who leaves Islam must be killed. Even in countries such as Britain where the penal code of sharia is not officially enforced, the sharia penalty for “apostasy” leads many Muslims to think it is legitimate to use threats, violence or other forms of intimidation to try to force men and women to reconvert back to Islam. Despite this, the UK government continues to ignore the problem. The British government’s recently published Hate Crime Action Plan makes only a single token reference to anti-Christian hate crime and fails to even acknowledge the widespread violence experienced by those who have chosen to leave Islam.

In the Pew research carried out in 2013, 76% of Pakistani’s in Britain support the death penalty for apostasy.

All people in Britain need to be made aware of this. That’s one reason for the march. Second, the government must be held accountable and made to fulfil its obligation and ensure all people in Britain have freedom of conscience.
