Hello again,
I didnt think that I would have resort to this again, but things being the way they are now I really have no choice, let me explain. If you read the original story below, it will give you an overview of what happened.
It'e been almost four years now since my Father passed away, Shortly after his passing I was blessed with a new job opportunity, a new apartment and a chance to finally move forward. After over two years with ten and sometimes twelve hour days my health started to decline, so at age sixty two I had to make a choice and I reluctantly retired. I moved to a much smaller town in the Southern/Central part of Illinois and moved in with my girlfriend. Health care down here isn't what is like back up North, we do have a Hospital here, but they have no full time E.R. Doctors there, they have floaters come in and you never know who you are going to see and I had no primary Physician. I finally found one I liked and trusted, but my health had declined, my Didabetes was out of control, I went from an A1C of 4.2 to over 7, my eyesight has degenerated (I had cataract surgery two years ago.) I was just starting to get sick a lot.
It all came to a head about two weeks ago, I went to the E.R. and was seen by a nurse practitioner, she ordered a urinalysis, a complete blood work up and a CT scan. I was told I had a UTI (which turned out to be false.) My white cell count was off the hook ( I don't have a Spleen and this is normal for me.) and the kicker...... I was told she found a mass in my Kidney and that I probably had cancer. ( It was eventually determined that I did have a large mass in my Kidney and there was a small portion that was questionable, so there will be some surgery involved.) She wanted to ambulance me to a Hospital in Springfield and have me sit there for two days until my primary saw me on the up coming Monday. I collect $1039.00 from Social Security and I also get a Link Card to the tune of $16.00 per month for food. I have a modified Medicare plan, so I have to pay a good portion of any medical and medications and I've sold just about everything I can.
I also have a car that no longer runs, so it really makes it hard to get any where. Sorry to make this so long, I really didn't want to have to do this again, but I thought it was important that you see where I am. I'm still in the vicious cycle of medical and credit card debt. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated and please share if you would.
Thanks again,
~ John
Hello, my name is John Abel. Almost two years ago I lost my 90-year-old father Norb. I was his full-time caregiver and as a result lost my job in order to take care of him on a 24/7 basis. I lived off my credit cards to survive while I took care of him. He died with dignity in a hospice facility on October 21, 2013. I need to move forward, but i'm stuck due to financial obligations. I've sold just about everything Icould (Including my collection of guitars and amps.) but I'm still way over my head in debt.
Being the only child, I was responsible for all the funeral expenses, he had no life insurance. He made me promise to make it simple, and it was, but it still cost close to $15,000. I have a decent job now, but it has been a financial struggle as I have had eye surgery twice, some extensive emergency dental work done and I am waiting on another surgical procedure to correct a nerve issue in my right arm. I'm a diabetic as well.
Needless to say that along with the credit card debt, I am financially devastated. I cannot pay these bills and my rent is coming up and I can't pay that either. Bankruptcy is not an option. I'm 61 years old, no spouse, and I desperately need to make a fresh start. I'm a proud man (I get that from my father) and this is something I'm rather embarrassed to do, but at this point I have no choice.
Whatever you could give would be most humbly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and bless you all.
Sincerely,
~ John
