(VETERANS RETURNING TO STANDING ROCK)
On November 20, 2016, a group of military Veterans made our first trip to Standing Rock to stand with our brothers and sisters who are protecting their sacred lands from desecration by the Dakota Access Oil Pipeline. #nodapl
That night, we livestreamed (WATCH HERE ) the assault on Water Protectors by militarized police forces. In subzero weather, harmless protestors were blasted with water cannons, rubber bullets, flash bang grenades, LRAD acoustic devices, and tear gas canisters. Hundreds were injured, and one woman's arm had to be amputated from the attack.
Despite being combat Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, we were totally unprepared for the brutal tactics used by our Government on Native protestors.
We were also taken aback by the benevolent generosity, compassion, love, and cultural understanding from the local Natives we met who instantly recognized our shared connection.
It didn't take long for us to realize that much more needed to be done than could be accomplished in just one trip, so we're going back.
EVERY DOLLAR RAISED WILL GO TO THE CAMP.
Unlike so many others, we are covering our own transportation, gas, food, shelter, and supplies!!!!
100% of your generous contribution will be given to courageous campers on December 4, 2016, when we return to Oceti Sakowin Camp.
If you want to help the brave patriots at Standing Rock, we want to help make that happen!
For transparency and accountability, we will post every dollar online, and we will share online when your generous contributions are presented to the tribes.
***Although we are Veterans who are traveling to Standing Rock on December 4th, we are unaffiliated with the other V4SR group currently soliciting donations for themselves.
We disagree with their organizer that "Most civilians who have never served in uniform are gutless worms. "
In fact, had these individuals gone to the Sacred Stone or Oceti Sakowin Camps, they would have seen hundreds of civilians working hard and putting their lives on hold to support a cause greater than themselves.
We believe in bringing people together from all walks of life, and that is what we are going to keep doing.
If you're committed to the cause of justice, especially for the oppressed, then we will stand with you.
