Winter Is Coming, Help The Homeless

Each night you can be certain of being welcomed home by a cozy bed to sleep in and warm sheets to tuck yourself in. Not everyone can say the same. According to the Liverpool Echo, in 2017, Liverpool saw at least 65 regular rough sleepers on its streets. This figure is continuously rising, with an increase of 63% from the year before.

The Whitechapel Centre works with people from all walks of life, from those at risk of becoming homeless, to those already living life rough on the streets. Last year alone they helped 4,000 people, many of whom were prevented from having to spend a night out on the streets. Labre house is one of their many projects, a temporary overnight accommodation, providing shelter and warmth for those without a home. A look inside The Whitechapel Centre...

As the winter is approaching, the number of people using Labre house is increasing. In the last month, on average 70 people attended each night, with some nights this number increasing to over 100.  With this is mind, we are asking for YOUR help in donating money to provide items used every night such sleeping bags and yoga mats.  Extra items needed include towels for hot showers and hot drink refreshments and biscuits. This is where we need your help. . .

As a group of University of Liverpool Students, we have chosen this particular project not only for an assignment,  but to make a change, and give back to the city we are taking so much from.  We are working directly with the Whitechapel centre to raise funds for Labre House for three weeks.

What your donation can do . . .

£2 could buy teabags or a jar of coffee to provide hot refreshments

£5 could buy a soft yoga  mat for someone to lie on

£15 could buy a thick, warm sleeping bag

If you are feeling generous, a £30 donation could buy all three of these items. Anyone who makes a donation of £30 or more will receive a house piggy bank which you can collect from the University of Liverpool at the end of the three weeks of funding.

You may feel like a drop in the bucket, but every drop counts.
