VK4AMC Fire

Doug VK4AMC (formally VK4MCD) is a 70 year old “blocky” that lives on a small acreage block in the remote community of Weranga near the small township of Tara on the Queensland Darling Downs. I have only know Doug for a few months and only a few weeks back meet him face to face when I camped on his block where I was able to mix my hobbies of amateur radio and rock and gem collecting (the area is well known for good fossicking of petrified wood).A few days back, Doug had ventured into Tara to purchase food and other supplies. On his return to his property, as he opened his gate, he noticed a strange popping sound coming from the direction of his dwelling. As he made his way into his property he was confronted by the devastating sight of his van completely destroyed, reduced to a blackened smouldering mass of molten metal. Except his car, a few possessions therein, his mobile phone and the clothes on his back he had lost everything!Doug has been an active amateur radio operator (or HAM radio operator) for many years. I found Doug to be a relatively quite, reserved man, yet generous and with an obvious sense of community. So it was not a surprise to learn he has been active in many local radio and community groups from Redcliffe (where he resided prior to moving to Weranga) and currently where he is the president of the Bunya Mountains Amateur Radio Group. I am creating this GoFundMe campaign in the hope that the broader community and specifically the world wide amateur radio community may have the opportunity to support Doug in rebuilding his life in this remote Queensland community.
