90yr Old Had Her Xmas Money Stolen
Donation protected
I am raising money for our next door neighbour called Betty. She is 90 years young and has lived in her flat for over 20 years. Betty is a kind and very outgoing lady, who was sadly taken for granted by a lady that came in to our communal gardens. Betty was enjoying the winter sun whilst sitting on the bench in our gardens, which is as far as she can get without a care assistant or wheelchair, when she was approached by a lady pretending to befriend her; whilst Betty was distracted, this lady stole her purse from her handbag and then finished her conversation and left. Betty didn’t notice for about 5 or 10 minutes, until she went to get her keys for her flat from her handbag. It was at this point Betty became very upset and distressed and contacted the police. Betty is absolutely devastated as her purse contained her Christmas savings, £1000 in cash, which she had been saving all year to buy presents for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This is a terrible thing to happen in such a close community in Kemp Town; it has left residents shocked and most upsettingly, Betty absolutely devastated. Not only does she feel this has ruined her and her families Christmas, but she now feels too fearful and vulnerable to even sit on the bench that she has frequented daily for years. She is scared in her own home; she is scared in her safe place.I would love to restore her faith in humanity by fundraising just a little bit back for her, so she can try to treat her grandchildren and great grandchildren as she intended. The police have been informed and they are looking for the person, but have said it is unlikely she will get the money back. Hopefully they do find the lady, so she doesn’t do this again to another vulnerable person
