PTSD Help For Struggling Veteran
Donation protected
My name is Clinton Buffenbarger. I have lived in Preble County my whole life. I'm 35 years old, married, and a veteran of the United States Army. I struggle with PTSD. I joined the Army in 2004, left for basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky Dec. 28 2004. I completed my training in May of 2005. I was then stationed at Fort Carson Colorado with 2nd Squadron 9th Cavalry 3HBCT 4th Infantry Division. In November of 2005 I got my orders to goto Iraq. I spent a year in Iraq at LSAA Anaconda, FOB Warhorse, and FOB Normandy. In August of 2006, while on patrol near Baquba Iraq the humvee I was driving was struck with a roadside bomb. I was riddled with schrapnel from my neck down to my waist. I still have metal in my neck and left shoulder to this day. To everyones suprise I completed my tour of duty in Iraq, but when I got back to the states my time in the United States Army came to an end. I was medically retired and discharged from the military. That is when the real struggles started for me. I have all of the symptoms of PTSD, mood swings, nightmares, etc....so much so that the VA diagnosed me 100% disabled with individual unemployability. I have been to counseling, been on numerous medications, tried group therapy, and have tried to deal with it on my own. I have struggled for 10 years. In December of 2014 I lost my mom to breast cancer. I lost it and started struggling a lot. Over the last year I have almost lost my life, my marriage, and my kids. Recently I was put in contact with Warriors Heart. This is a inpatient therapy program for current and former military members that are struggling with addiction and PTSD. The program is 42 days with 1 on 1 sessions, group sessions, and medical exams. Also the treatment includes working with therapy dogs, art therapy, metal shop, exercise, and many other things. After I complete the 42 days of treatment I can elect to stay an additional two months and continue working with a therapy dog. Upon completion of the two months I will be able to bring the therapy dog home with me as a service dog. The program is located northwest of San Antonio TX. My insurance will cover most of the cost, but there is some out of pocket cost for me. If I just want to do the 42 day treatment and come home, my out of pocket expense is $2,750.00, if I want to complete the additional two months of training with a service dog, the cost will be roughly $5800.00. I am asking for donations to help cover the cost of the treatment. My wife needs this, my kids need this, and I need this. Your generous donations will help save a life and a family. Thank You.
