LMSA Mission Trip 2016
Donation protected
The Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) is a University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine student-run organization established to promote the improvement of healthcare for underprivileged communities. In October, we will be traveling to medically underserved communities in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, where our multidisciplinary team will provide acute medical care, health education, and preventive medicine to patients lacking access to basic medical services.
During last year’s trip, we set up a total of six clinics over a three-day period and provided medical care to over 1,500 patients. We were also able to offer a hygiene kit to each patient in order to assist with preventive health measures. Our efforts earned LMSA the 2015 Student Humanitarian Organization Award presented by the USF Morsani College of Medicine. Our success on the trip would not have been possible without the help from our generous donors. Due to the support we received, we were able to provide much needed care to a Hispanic community who would have not received these services otherwise.
We are hoping to make this year’s upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic an even greater success. We will be collecting medications, toiletry items, and other supplies from businesses, organizations, and individual donors. We will also be holding multiple fundraising events throughout the year in order to subsidize the cost of the trip. We hope that you will consider contributing to our efforts as every donation counts. Not only will your support make this trip possible, but it will also make a tremendous impact on our patients’ lives. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like more information regarding the trip. We hope you enjoy the pictures from last year’s journey. ¡Saludos!
