Help My Mom Fight This Rare Cancer!


In Oct 2018 my Mom, Tammy Dewitt Le, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. She had a hysterectomy and was officially staged 3c. It was successful in removing all visible cancer but chemo and radiation were recommended because we also learned she has a very rare and aggressive cancer: carcinosarcoma. It is highly aggressive and often has metastasized to other parts of the body at the time of diagnosis. This type of cancer accounts for less than 5% of all uterine cancers.

My Mom started chemo (Carbo/Taxol) on 11/27 however when she came for her 2nd round on 12/18 a new and abnormally large (12cm x 20cm) tumor was found in her bowels (she had been having severe abdominal pain). This was extremely upsetting to have a recurrence already. The doctor decided to change to a new chemo (gemzar/taxotere) and she just had her 2nd infusion. This tumor caused her life expectancy to be drastically shortened.

Because of her cancer’s rarity and small number of cases there are almost no large studies or trials. The prognosis is poor with a 5 year survival rate of 30%. Most gynecological oncologists have only seen a few cases in their lifetime and may not be aware of the most current treatments. For this reason we are planning to visit out of state cancer hospitals to give her the best chance to slay this beast.

The emotional and physical toll has been overwhelming especially since she was so active and healthy before. Her main caretaker has been her husband (my dad). He was laid off from his job in April 2018, costs are high and money is tight. The consultation appointment alone at MD Anderson is over $18,000, and treatments and various needed drugs are anticipated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We are a really close family and my mom truly is the most amazing and strong woman I’ve ever seen. She is caring and kind towards everyone and I want to do anything I can to give her a better chance at life. We appreciate any help we can get, even just sharing this campaign.
