Serving Those Who Sacrificed for Us

My name is Avery and I am a Venturer (Scout), in Venturing Crew 1776, working on my Summit Award Service Project. The Summit Award is Venturing's equivalent to Eagle, both required a service project to be planned and executed. My Summit Award project is "Serving those who Sacrificed for Us." We often take for granted the liberties we have and rarely see the hidden sacrifice behind preserving those freedoms. Many veterans are alone and do not have the support system they need, so this project is to serve them, as they have served our nation and us.
It is a two-fold project that starts with a donation drive to collect items that are for the veterans at the local VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Philadelphia. These are items that may be in short supply, rapidly consumed or not accessible to the veterans. The second part of the project is an in service day at the VA Medical Center, where a group of my fellow scouts and I will spend time with the Veterans getting to know them, engage in meaningful conversation, keep them company, listen to their stories, and maybe even play a few games.
This gofundme, is for those who are unable to provide in-kind donations and wish to do a monetary donation in support of a great cause. Any donation will be extremly appreciated. All funds raised will be used to buy the supplies needed to support the veterans and add to what we are collecting locally. These are some of the items that are in current need at the VA Medical Center:
Reading glasses (All Strengths)
Socks (Men's and Women's)
T-Shirts (Men's sizes M-XXL)
Chapstick
Razors (Men's and Women's)
Puzzle Books (New Only)
