Help for The Houck Family

Donation protected
This page was created in order to help a very special family in a great time of need, Aimee and Terry Houck. On December 17th, 2015 they received the shock they never expected to hear. Terry, 57 had been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Not more than 24 hours later did Aimee learn that her own father had been diagnosed with the same cancer!! Both would be in the hospital together on the same floor beginning the harsh treatments of chemotherapy only days apart. Terry spent the next 7 straight days receiving chemotherapy each day for 24 hours never being able to leave the hospital to come home for Christmas to be with Aimee and their two children, Emily 16 and Noah 14. After numerous blood draws, chemo, and a biopsy Terry received the news on Christmas Eve that he would need a bone marrow transplant. Aimee's father would not, but still remains in the hospital until his blood counts improve. (He also will continue a chemo protocol in the near future.)

Terry finally arrived home from the hospital on January 23rd. He will begin his consolidation chemotherapy here in Syracuse where he will be re admitted to the hospital. If he does well he will be released within a week, if not it could be up to a month. Terry's transplant will be at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY (1 1/2hours) away and will take place in 2-3 months if a match is found. After the transplant process he will remain at Strong for a month . Once he is released he will need a caregiver 24 hours a day for 2 months or more and will be traveling back to Rochester from Syracuse twice a week for several months after. Terry will be out of work for at least a year.

As a one income household  with Aimee working only part time and soon not at all once Terry begins the transplant process one can only imagine the financial burden, numerous expenses, and emotional toll that lies ahead of them.

It is hoped that this page will offset much of the medical costs and financial burdens that come with a serious illness. The community has been extremely supportive in bringing meals, helping with Emily and Noah, offering much support and prayers which they are forever grateful. Any small donation will be graciously accepted. Anyone that knows Aimee and Terry know that this is a family that does not like to ask for help so it is an honor to be able to create this page and help them in this way.
