Get the new whaleboat sailing!
California Maritime Academy donated one of the last wooden sailing whaleboats, which are the core of our youth program, and it needs some work, a rig and sails. This boat will get immediate and heavy use as our current two boats always are sailing at capacity crew. Kids often must stay ashore waiting a turn to sail a whaleboat.
San Francisco Sailing Whaleboat Association is a tax deductible non-profit supporting a very successful teen leadership and seamanship program in The City since 1920. The program uses wooden sailing whaleboats, a challenging and adventurous platform for nautical and team leadership skills. Teens typically spend four to seven years in the program. After three years they can earn a sailing pilot's license and take the whaleboat out with a teen crew and no adults aboard.
