World Record Big Day in Ecuador
Donation protected
Earlier in 2015, two friends and I put together a "Big Day" here in Ecuador. We found 335 bird species strictly following ABA Big Day rules . Our 335 species holds third place worldwide. We spent a grand total of less than $400--an arduous task that included me driving 20 hours non-stop.
Our new goal is to reach 370 species in a single day that we are planning for this October, 2015. If we're successful, we'll hold the new world record for number of birds on a Big Day. Our Funding goal is $5000 which we will spend on transportation, room and board for our team for a week to be spent in the rainforest of eastern Ecuador, better planning, hiring a sound and photo technician, and renting equipment.
We will donate leftover funds to the Cosanga-Narupa Christmas Bird Count. Last year at this Xmas Bird Count we (131 participants, who were mostly budding Ecuadorian birders) registered 529 species!
