On Thursday 28th March, Drag Aid for Chechnya 2 will take place in the Generator Hostel, Smithfield. Think Live Aid, but swap out rock stars for glittering Drag Queens and Kings, and Wembley for The Generator [Facebook Event]
We set up this GoFundMe page for those who can't make it, or who would like to give a little extra.
WHAT'S GOING ON?
In 2017 we first learned the terrifying reality of life for LGBTQ people in Chechnya, Russia. People were being rounded up and sent to torture camps. This is still happening.
Recently, 2 deaths and 40 new detentions of LGBTQ people in Chechnya have come to light. And we want to help. Last time with your support we raised over €8,000 that went towards helping our brothers and sisters in Russia. This time we want to do even more.
SO WHO ARE YOU RAISING FUNDS FOR?
The Russian LGBT Network – they are evacuating gay people out of Chechnya as we speak, and provide hotlines and legal advice for Russian LGBT people. Every cent we raise will be donated to this organisation.
SWEET! WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Attend the fundraiser. Invite your friends. Sign Amnesty International's petition . Most important of all: tell everyone what is happening. Don't stand by in silence. Come together and make a difference.
