HELP: Camp for sickle cell children
Donation protected
Dear Family & Friends,
Thanks for taking a moment to read this!
Many of you are very familiar with my story...thanks in part to the segment by Fox 5 Atlanta; for some it may be new.
In early 2013, my seven year old daughter Khadeejah had a stroke due to sickle cell complications. She is one of three daughters with the disease but she is the one most affected. Since her stroke, she has been on monthly transfusions in hopes of preventing a future stroke. She will be having brain surgery in March of 2016 to repair the damaged blood vessels.
My family and I are on a mission to bring awareness to sickle cell disease and provide support to families affected by scd.
In the summer of 2015, a police officer with Clayton County Schools sponsored my three daughters to go to their very first sickle cell camp. Not only did she pay the tuition, she also brought supplies for them to take to camp! That touched me so much because as a parent raising three kids with special needs, the ability to send them to camp was never financially feasible for us.
This year, I want to do for other children what Officer Williams did for my babies. My children came back from camp very rejuvenated and filled with a desire to know more about their condition. They had fun being around others who understand the pain and struggles they go through daily.
For one week out of the year, medical staff and volunteers give their all to create a magical, fun-filled experience that children battle sickle cell will never forget. The camp programs and activities are age appropriate, and are tailored to the physical capabilities of each child. They know a lot about the health needs of children with sickle cell disease and the physicians and nurses who are at camp 24/7 are experts in treating children with sickle cell disease.
I am hoping that you will help in whatever way that you can to help me provide this experience to children battling sickle cell disease. Your thoughts, prayers, shares, and good will are worth more than I can say.
Forever grateful!
