On December 24th, Christmas Eve, my family received the most precious and amazing gift ever.
My beautiful cousin Karen, received a new liver at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Karen is a mother of two amazing sons, Joey and Jamie, who's father is deceased.
She is a daughter , and a sister to four siblings.
She is 54 years young, and has suffered from an auto-immune disease which affected her liver.
She is loved beyond measure, and our family is so happy that she is alive and able to begin her journey to a new healthy, and happy life.
We are grateful to the liver donor, and we have her family in our thoughts and prayers.
We encourage everyone to become an organ donor.
There is no greater gift. Karen is proof.
We are grateful to God that he blessed her with a new liver, a new life.
Karen is no longer able to work, and is dealing with the system trying to get disability and medicaid/social security.
It's sad to me, that someone has to deal with the mental stress of making ends meet, when all she should be focussed on, is getting well.
She has gone 12 weeks without income. But the bills have zero compassion, and it's imperative that she take extraordinary amounts of medication which are very costly and out of pocket.
Karen didn't ask for help, and she won't ask.
I feel the need, and want to help.
I know that I have amazing friends and family, and I am asking for anyone who is able to lend a hand, whether it be $1 or whatever you feel compelled, to please donate.
And if you are not able, please keep Karen in your prayers, that she continue to do well on her road to recovery.
