Help Children See "Black Panther"
Donation protected
The release of Marvel's film the "Black Panther" is a rare opportunity for young students (primarily of color) to see a black major cinematic and comic book character come to life. This representation is truly fundamental for young people, especially those who are often underserved, unprivileged, and marginalized both nationally and globally.
I would like to provide the opportunity for underprivileged children to get the experience of seeing this movie in theaters. It is important for them to see characters that look like them portrayed in positive, powerful ways on the big screen.
Clarkisha Kent of TheRoot.com writes about the importance of the Black Panther film "Black Panther remains socially and culturally relevant because it imagines a world where black people continually triumph over the influences of capitalism, Western imperialism and white supremacy."

I want to to provide the opportunity for underprivileged children to get the experience of seeing this movie in theaters. It is important for them to see characters that look like them portrayed in positive, powerful ways. This is not a new desire for me. The moment it actually clicked was when I read an Article published by Huffpost back in 2012 that reported on studies reflecting the damaging effects exposure to negative images on television has on girls and African American boys.

All proceeds will go to paying for the private screening tickets. The release of the film is February 16th, 2018, and the screenings will take place the following week between February 19th and 22nd.
I chose to donate this screening to the local Boys and Girls club because:
1) They do awesome work
2) Most importantly they provide services to an underserved population
3) When my wife and I had our first son, we used the Boys and Girls club for afterschool care and we had an awesome experience
So, I would like to give back, while also possibly providing the spark that may lead to the next generation of filmakers, writers, or leaders
Cost breakdown:
$14.30 per ticket * 200 Children plus local sales tax of 9.25%
*The remaining balance of donations after the movie Experience is paid for will go to the local Boys and Girls Club
*All organization donations and movie/refreshment purchase receipts will be sent to campaign donors after the campaign is finished.*
I appreciate you joining me in supporting our children, who need us now more than ever.
