The Rachel Meyers Foundation
Donation protected
I dislike doing this, especially after all the generosity that was shown by so many of you friends, family and strangers in helping with Rachel's funeral expenses...but here I am. We have set up The Rachel Meyers Foundation (a non-profit) with many purposes. Primarily we are working to change current Washington State Law that allows a minor 13 or older to refuse treatment for substance abuse despite the desire of the parents. We currently have legislation being drafted that will be brought to the floor in this upcoming January session that will restore the treatment decisions to the parents or guardians. Because there are many oher states with similar laws we will then work to change those as well. Idaho and New York have laws that allow 14 year olds the right to decide. They are our next targets after Washington. We will also be working to educate young people by speaking at schools and other events. The money being raised will primarily be used for legal fees, to register the Foundation in other states, build a website and to reimburse expenses incurred for speaking engagements. There will be no money spent on salaries as we are an all volunteer organization.
Please consider donating $1 or $5 or whatever you can afford. I know this is a tough time of the year to ask for money, but your donation is tax deductible and will hopefully allow us to educate and save young people from a life of drug addiction and possible death. For those interested, you can check out our Facebook page: The Rachel Meyers Foundation. For those of you not familiar with this issue, my name is Scott Meyers and my beautiful middle daughter Rachel passed away from a drug overdose in March of this year. Drug overdoses now account for more deaths in the United States than automobile accidents. Heroin and pill abuse are becoming an epidemic in our state and in our country. We humbly ask for your support and any size of donation. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If nothing else, please share this with as many people as you can.
