Bruce's Cancer Treatment

Bruce was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in March of this year. We were in total shock as he had none of the expected symptoms of this disease until that time. The doctor gave him 6 - 8 months. We are in the 8th month now. We had almost lost him in March and again in May. He surprised everyone, even his doctor, when he stabilized in July.
Now, unfortunately, the cancer has returned and he has three lesions on his liver. The doctor is using the new drug, Opdivo, that just got approval from the FDA early this year.
His doctor thinks that they can 'arrest' his liver cancer if he gets a radiation therapy treatment. The procedure is called Sir-Sphere Microspheres. They have had success with this procedure for people with colon cancer that has metastasized to the liver. The problem is, it has not been studied long enough for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer that has spread to the liver so, insurance will not cover it. It is an expensive treatment, costing between $10,000 and $15,000.
I have always taken care of myself and have never asked for a handout from anyone - my whole life! But now? I do need your help! I am swallowing my pride and asking all our friends and family to help me give Bruce more time.
More time to spend with his grandchildren.
More holidays to be spent with family.
More time to keep working at the job he loves.
More time to take one last trip to New Orleans, the place he loves most in this world.
And most of all, more time with me!
I went to high school with Bruce and we were good friends. After graduation, we all went our separate ways. I was fortunate enough to run into him again online in 2005. Since then, my life has been perfect! I have the most wonderful husband in the world. Bruce is a very unique individual with a HUGE heart!
I just want to do anything I can to give this special man more time to enjoy the life he so loves!
