My cousin Wesley's son, Caleb, is a family oriented, 15 year old boy. He is the middle child, of 5 children. Caleb is close to his sisters, Emma (7th grade), Kaila (12th grade) and Savanna (12th grade). Much like boys his age he enjoys paintball, biking, mechatronics, video games, and anime. Caleb looks up to his father, and is interested in IT/computers just like him. He loves animals and would like to be a marine biologist one day.
He's a great brother, son, nephew, cousin, and grandson. He is especially kind to younger kids and goes out of his way to be sure that they are having fun whenever he's around.
After being sick for a month and seeing multiple doctors to try and get to the bottom of his symptoms, an MRI was scheduled. On April 7 the MRI showed a 7cm tumor on his hypothalamus (brain). After spending 5 nights in the pediatric ICU at MUSC, having a biopsy, losing strength in the right side of his body, and having a permanent shunt placed in his brain, his parents received devastating news-the tumor was Stage 4.
With this diagnosis came the information that a surgery to remove the tumor has incredibly high risks. The other option was to have a laser treatment which is new to pediatric patients. He will be the 4th pediatric patient in the state of South Carolina to receive this treatment. There is a 50/50 chance of the laser being successful. The upside of this procedure is that the outcome will be known immediately. Caleb will be receiving this treatment on Friday, April 22 and will begin chemotherapy and radiation 1-2 weeks after the laser treatment. Along with chemo and radiation, Caleb will have to go through physical & occupational therapy. His physical therapy will be in Charlotte, NC.
With medical bills imminent, Savanna & Kaila going to college in the fall, traveling to NC for physical therapy, and Caleb's parents unable to work regularly (due to his appointments, treatment, and needing 24 hour care) they are going to need all of the financial help possible. It is uncertain at this time how much the medicals bills will be, but they are certain to surpass the goal set at this time.
Any help that can be given to Caleb's family is most appreciated. Prayers are more than appreciated, as well. Thank you for your consideration and may God bless you.
