In October, I left my husband of four years. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do, but the last straw was when I was explaining how he hurt me in my doctor's office, asking if she was sure it wasn't the dog that could have hurt me... That's what he said happened to me. It wasn't the dog, and it wasn't the first time I faced emotional or physical abuse. There was also cheating in our marriage, on both sides, I was not perfect, but I felt trapped and scared to leave. He said I'd never make it without him and that my family would hate me. So, finally in October, with the help of my friends and family, I left him.  The hardest part is that he was the breadwinner. I am unable to work and just had open heart surgery two weeks ago. When he left, as a stay at home wife, he took all income. Without the help of my parents, I'd have no place to stay, no food, no help while recovering from surgery. However, he's filed for divorce and I need a lawyer. I have no means of getting one and my parents are on a fixed income and already struggling. I need help and it kills me to admit or ask for help, but I'm swallowing my pride and admitting it. Anything at all would help so much.
