Wheelchair van 4 Wheelchair warrior
Donation protected
My name is Margaret and on August 11, 1991 I was shot in the neck paralyzing me for the rest of my life. The man, who is the father of my ex boyfriend, was never charged. I spent 2 weeks in intensive care and 2 months in rehab. I had to learn how to talk and write all over again while in occupational therapy. Just shy of 20 years old and being on my own for a year, you can imagine I was not happy going back to my moms to live but it was my only option. I needed and still need a caregiver at all times. I was nothing more than excited to move out on my own again in 2004, however, other than my wheelchair, I can not get around independently. I have to rely on a Medicaid paid bus or $9 round trip on the city accessible bus to get to places I need to be. These transit programs have made me so sick that the doctors are pessimistic about my life span so having an accessible van for my caregivers to drive would make life so much easier. I have NEVER been able to transport comfortably since being shot.
As Ms Wheelchair Ohio 2011, I not only advocate on gun violence in my home town, I travel to many places including Washington D.C. to spread awareness. Recently I flew with my power chair and the airline broke it so having my own vehicle would make it easier. With your help, I will be able to continue to advocate as well as live my life to the fullest. One of the things I look forward to doing on a yearly basis is skydiving and if I reach my goal, I will take my first 2 highest donators or their loved one for the thrill of their life. I can guarantee you will have the time of your life diving with me! A new van will cost close to $35,000 but even a used van will be the best thing to happen to me so any little bit you can give will help.
Thank you for your support!!!!
