From Annette
Hello, my name is Annette Williams. I am writing this in February 2015 from my remote wilderness cabin in Colorado. I am undergoing chemotherapy to kill Lung and Adrenal Cancer cells invading my body in Stage 4 level. This was discovered during a catastrophic rupture of my intestine, July 21, 2014 leaving me brushing shoulders with death. I was in the Intensive Care Unit for 9 days in the hospital in Salida, Colorado, where I had been visiting for a weekend as a photographer exhibiting my work in an outdoor summer arts festival. I never imagined I would get a cancer diagnosis on top of my burst intestine, and now wearing a Colostomy bag outside of my stomach.
I am a single woman, born and educated in Germany, I immigrated to this wonderful country in 1968, with no family here nor abroad. I live in a humble mountain cabin, at an elevation of 9200 feet, far in the wilderness, having no neighbors and as yet no USPS services. There for the past 29 years I have been independent and strong, I created my own tranquil garden where I do most of my photography, overlooking the peaceful valleys, forests and snow-covered peaks of the Rockies.
Financially, I have always lived close to the ground. I pay my bills but there has never been much left over. It’s always worked for me until now, when my health and now uncertain future, within a moment came to a screeching halt. My resources were depleted completely by the impact on my inability to work and the phenomenal medical expenses that have come pouring in.
I would like to tell you a little more about myself. In the summer of 1982, I was honored to be given the opportunity to study with a number of accomplished photographers with National Geographic at the " Maine Photographic Workshop" in Rockport, Maine. I was privileged to study with Dick Durrance II, Harvey Lloyed, Jody Cobb, Jim Brandenburg and Al Weber. In July of 2012 I was honored by National Geographic Magazine, having the best picture of the week, an accomplished award of the finest photography.
With my camera I capture the sense of light and space, telling my story like visual poems of the often overlooked tiniest, intricate aspects of creations. My images are pure as nature presents them, without any manipulations. As you view my photographs I wish to convey to you an appreciation of the smallest wonders, captured and preserved through the lens of my camera. You can see a collection of them at www.AnnettePhotos.com
My vision for my future is lighting the way, but it is as if I have been falling off a cliff but desperately trying to hang on.
My hope is that I will be back being myself by December of 2015 and that the 4 months of intense chemotherapy has killed all the invading cells which will then be surgically removed. My next hope is for the upcoming reverse Ostomy operation in early May of 2015, in order to place my intestine back into my stomach where it belongs will be successful. This will be another 6 months of painful recovery and limited mobility.
My Hope is to continue exhibiting at art festivals in 2016, a very physically fit demanding task, to support my way of living, as the only other income that sustains me is a very modest monthly Social Security check . And finally my hope is for financial help for my healing journey, the already extensive medical costs of many MRI’s, PET scan, CT scans, 34 day hospital stay so far with much more to endure after the excruciating Ostomy surgery scheduled soon in April, after my cancer cells have been killed.
As difficult as it is for me to ask for help, any amount of donations are deeply appreciated from my heart of profound and immense gratitude to you and the love for the arts. Thank You So Very Much.
Most sincerely, Annette
