Amy's MBSR Teacher Training

An Invitation to Invest in Joy

Since 2010 I have been training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).  I began this journey at the Jefferson Mindfulness Institute , and I was so impressed with the positive effects of MBSR that in 2014 I decided to train and certify as a teacher. Although I've been able to take the 8-week course (twice!), the practicum, and a teaching internship (plus some other great supplemental classes), the program at Jefferson does not certify teachers. So I am completing my certification at UMass Centre for Mindfulness, where MBSR was created and developed more than 40 years ago.

Last summer I did the CFM 7-day training at Omega Institute and now I am undertaking the next big chunk, called the Practice Training Intensive , an 8-day residential training retreat. This program is expensive. It's priced for medical professionals and those who perhaps have an institution behind them to help carry the costs. I am an independent practitioner, however, so I need help paying for the tuition and residential expenses. The tuition is $3200, and my Air BnB, meals, and transportation are roughly another $1000. (Plus, I will not be earning that week.)

The MBSR curriculum is amazing, and has been successful for tens of thousands of people, proven both anecdotally and in peer-reviewed studies. Elements of it have already been woven into my workshop called Moving Into Mindfulness , and it was in the Jefferson program that I first met Franz Moeckl and learned Qigong . I could go on just using portions of MBSR work in my groups and private practice, but the 8-week program is unique and powerful, and I want to learn it thoroughly and deeply, trusting its positive track record. I hope to bring MBSR to one or more local hospitals and wellness centers. Because "mindfulness" has become such a buzzword, there are a lot of watered-down versions of this work. I don't want to contribute to that trend.

Can you make a donation today?  I have gone into debt to make payments thus far, so any financial support I get now will help reduce that debt. The training is from September 17-25, and I need to complete payment by October 1.

I can offer some premiums for larger gifts -- a complimentary Alexander lesson or Somatic Release bodywork session, for example -- and I'll be adding in some fun premiums for smaller ones, as we go along. These cannot come close to expressing how thankful I will be for any and all donations.

It is no exaggeration to say that mindfulness and Vipassana (Insight) meditation has changed my life for the better, in every concievable way. Along with the Alexander Technique , nothing else has been so accessible, so powerful, and so positive in my life. You may have experienced the benefits of this work too, in one of my classes or elsewhere. I know my family and closest friends are thrilled that I'm learning this; it improves their lives as well. :-)

See that smile on my face?  That's me teaching a mindfulness group. That's the joy I get from this work. Anything you give, even $10, is an investment in joy.

With sincere gratitude,
Amy
