Amy Bray's Heart Care Fund
Donation protected
My soul mate, my wife and the Mother of our wonderful Son has finally undergone the heart transplant she desperately needed. To those of you that already know of our journey we thank you for your prayers, donations, support and kind uplifting words. We ask and pray that you continue with whatever assistance you can provide and to share this link as often as you can.
On Mother’s Day of this year Amy received her new heart here in Costa Rica. The 4 hour surgery became a 12 hour surgery because they’d discovered she needed a new aorta so a prosthetic one had to be made. Then she was in a medically induced coma for 10 days thereafter. She’s since battled and overcome internal bleeding, pneumonia twice, a broken scapula (which she now has nerve damage from), and is dealing with kidney issues from all the medications (she takes 30+ pills a day). She’s been readmitted only once and of the 9 biopsies taken her heart is doing well. Despite the odds and all she’s gone and is going through she has remained strong willed. I am so proud of her and so honored to be her husband.
Since the onset of Amy’s medical odyssey we’ve depleted all financial resources and had to sell everything. The dream we had moving here to run and operate a jet-ski touring company has dissolved into the shadows because the fight for Amy’s life far outweighs everything else. We’ve been living by the grace of God and with help from dear friends. Thankfully the Costa Rican government granted Amy citizenship, which allowed her to receive a new heart and the medical care here. Her medical insurance coverage is $300 a month and we are already a few months behind and I am more than concerned as to what might happen. We live in Quepos, which is a 4 hour bus ride from the hospital in Costa Rica. As fate has it, we now must find a new home by the end of July. The home care for Amy requires as sterile an environment as possible with a strict diet that requires the utmost stringency in preparation. This is because of her compromised and fragile immune system. I must find a new and suitable home for our family while struggling to find work of any type, taking care of our young son and taking care of Amy and her needs. Work is hard to come by, if not impossible. We need a vehicle so that when Amy needs to have her check-ups I can get her there in a more controlled environment and quicker than the public bus she’d taken before.
If you know of anyone that lives in Costa Rica please share our story with them and ask that they also share this page on their social media. I am hoping and praying we can find a place to live or a family that might graciously share their home with us. Perhaps someone might need work done - I am a hard worker, good at repairing machinery and computers. I can and will do whatever I possibly can for my family. Until we have a vehicle I am limited to working in the area in which we are living for now, by Manual Antonio State Park in Puntarenas. Although we are familiar with this area we are open to moving anywhere safe between here and San Jose that puts a roof over our heads.
The donation(s) you gift to our family will help to pay for Amy’s monthly medical along with the most basic of living costs and, God willing, a car. I’ve asked so much of God and his graces and I know I am blessed to still have Amy and for each new day we have together. I now ask you, my peers, my friends, my family – please help our humble and thankful family in any way you are able to, whether it’s a donation, sharing our story, a connection, or prayers. With your help I am hoping to allow Amy to focus on healing and not stress about where we might lay our heads, if we can eat, or if we can afford her health care. Thank you all a thousand times over and may God bless your kindness.
